This short sci-fi thriller is the next project from Oakland futurist, filmmaker + visual artist Celia C. Peters.
It will be shot in Oakland, California in May 2026 and will feature top-tier Bay Area talent,
both in front of and behind the camera.

OBJECT PERMANENCE will screen in a short film showcase on September 12, 2026 at
Turpen Aviation Museum at San Francisco International Airport, as part of the
Women of Afrofuturism exhibit presented by SFO Museum.

LOGLINE:
When an interstellar object reaches Earth, scientist Drexciya and her best friend Echo both finally get what they’ve been wanting . . just not at all how they expected.

MEET THE PROJECT

WHY IT WILL SUCCEED

In an era when the U.S. government is erasing Black history, telling stories about Black and POC people in the future is a most urgent and very necessary revolutionary act.

This film is for the huge audience of BIPOC sci-fi fans and all inclusive-minded sci-fi fans who are hungry to experience elevated sci-fi stories led by diverse characters who reflect the world we live in. The completed film will premiere at San Francisco International Airport in September 2026, followed by a screening at NEXUS by the Museum of the African Diaspora-SF in October 2026. Beyond that, the film will head to film festivals. We will leverage interest to develop a feature film or episodic series version of Object Permanence.
