Afrocinematika is a showcase of innovative, visually striking short science fiction films that shine a light on Women of Afrofuturism. These films represent a new approach to speculative storytelling in film, one that centers the Black experience while reflecting agency, culture, science, technology and intersection with the unknown --- without racial trauma. Afrocinematika is the next wave of afrofuturist film: thought-provoking Black science fiction expressed through compelling cinematic storytelling that is truly free.
This showcase is presented by SFO Museum in conjunction with the Women of Afrofuturism exhibit in Terminal 1 at San Francisco International Airport.
