IN THE CUT is a new kind of virtual film salon.
We'll explore stellar performances across film genres and eras, through the lens of Black actors. Great acting is universal yet far too often, absolutely masterful performances by Black actors have been overlooked and under-examined. This film salon locks in on these gems, exploring performances we can't stop thinking about—and what makes them unforgettable.
In the process of teaching screenwriting, I often use films featuring Black actors as examples. Over time, I realized that there are SO many incredible Black actors who have delivered amazing performances, yet they've never gotten their flowers. This is a problem and it sparked something in me. You see, I am obsessed with film (especially *characters*) and I really LOVE talking about film with people who geek out over it as much as I do. So, as a screenwriter who creates character-driven stories, IN THE CUT was the inevitable outcome.
IN THE CUT is an easygoing place for serious film lovers and of course, directors, writers, actors and other film industry folks, to come together and get inside great performances. We'll explore how character is built on the page, shaped by the director and embodied by the actor. You don't have to be a filmmaker or you definitely can be --- but you MUST love movies.
This salon is open to anyone who's into film and wants to go deep into transcendent cinematic performances.
